The wood material W for combustion includes a pillar-like wood body 1 that can stand, a longitudinal hole 2 which runs approximately through the center on the upper end face 1A of the wood body 1, directing inward in the wood body 1, and which is open at least on the upper end face 1A, and a lateral hole 3 which is open on only a side face 1C excluding the upper end face 1A and a lower end face of the wood body 1 and which runs inward in the wood body 1 to communicate with the longitudinal hole 2.
