Wood is carbonized to yield charcoal, wood vinegar and wood tar. The charcoal is ground into particles to yield particulate charcoal which is supplied as an adsorbent. Subsequently, the used particulate charcoal is recovered and crushed in a heavy oil into fine particles to yield fluid charcoal, which is supplied as a fuel. The supplied fluid charcoal is burnt to heat an aggregate such as ballast, sand. To the heated aggregate, asphalt and the above wood tar are blended to yield a paving material.
