To provide a woody composite material free from harmful matter in raw materials and sufficiently usable even as a structural material, and to provide a method for manufacturing the material.
This woody composite material comprises a mixture of elongated woody material pieces and a binder, and is obtained by heating and pressurizing a woody mat formed by laminating the elongated woody material pieces oriented uniaxially. The binder is a tannic adhesive containing tannin originated from acacia. The manufacturing method comprises the steps of: mixing the elongated woody material pieces and the tannic adhesive containing tannin originated from acacia; laminating the mixed woody material pieces whose longitudinal direction is made uniaxially oriented to form a woody mat; charging the woody mat into a press machine by carrying it on a conveyer; and heating and pressurizing the mat by the press machine to bind the woody material pieces together.
