PURPOSE: To provide an inexpensive word processor of high operability which can translate effectively the English documents into Japanese ones by using a dictionary retrieving means and a language information output means.
CONSTITUTION: A dictionary control part 55 detects a word at the head of the data under editing which are stored in a document memory 41 and checks whether the detected word is already stored in a retrieved data memory 42 or not. If not, a dictionary corresponding to the dictionary under editing stored in a dictionary memory 7 is retrieved based on the detected word. In this case, an English-Japanese dictionary is retrieved out of the memory 7 since the document under editing is written in English. Then the meanings, the parts of speech, the example data, etc., of the words retrieved out of the memory 7 are successively stored in the retrieving order. In such a way, the language information on the words included in the documents are collectively retrieved out of the dictionary and can be displayed and printed. Thus it is possible to eliminate the time and labor needed for consulting the dictionary for each unknown word and to effectively obtain the translated sentences since the reference is possible only to the language information on the words included in the documents.
