To provide a device which automatically generates and registers the abbreviation of a word to be registered and simultaneously changes and erases also concerning the abbreviation of a registered word at the time of changing and erasing the already registered word, concerning a word registering and editing device registering a word in a word dictionary for processing natural language.

At the time of registering word information in the word dictionary 7, a word registering part 12 obtains the addreviation of a registering object word from an addreviation generating part 14. At the time of registering to the word dictionary 7, a managing information giving part 13 gives the same managing number to the original registering object word and its abbreviation. An abbreviation generating part 14 morpheme-analyzes the notation of the registering object word by using a morpheme analyzing dictionary 4 and generates the addreviation of the registering objective word from the result. A word editing part 15 simultaneously changes and erases attribute information with respect to words with the same managing number.
