To exclude chips stored between a front vice device and a cut work in carrying out a cut work using the front vice device.
A cutter is provided with a vice device main body which consists of a movable vice jaw and a fixed vice jaw for clamping a work W and is located backward of a cutting position viewed in a work carrying direction. A front vice device 57 consisting of a movable vice jaw 67 and a fixed vice jaw 61 for clamping the work W is provided forward of the cutting position viewed in the work carrying direction. The work W is cut while clamped by the vice device main body but not clamped by the front vice device 57 as shown by solid lines in a drawing. After cutting operation proceeds downward across a center of the work W in height, the front vice device 57 clamps the work W as shown with a two-dot chain line in the drawing, thus permitting chips generated during cutting to drop downward of the work W without being stored between the front vice device 47 and a cut work.
