PURPOSE: To provide a work holding device which can obtain a holding force larger than the holding force with the atmospheric pressure, generates no slipping even though the work is rotated forcibly, and has an efficiency generating no transmitting loss of the rotation frequency.

CONSTITUTION: A work holding body 2 holding a lens 1 at the rear side is held fluctuatable by the lower end of a work holding shaft 3 being hung down. A rotary driving shaft 8 is connected to a motor 7 at the vertical lower side, and a disk form driving roller 9 to transmit the rotation of the motor 7 to the lens 1 is provided abutting to the side surface of the lens. A disk form driven roller 17 rotating following the rotation of the lens is provided at the lower end of a roller holding shaft 16. The driven roller 17 is to be pressed against the side surface of the lens by a constant force of a drawing spring 19. The unit 20 is a polishing device to polishing process the lens.
