Abstract:
Provided is a workpiece rest device with which support can be provided without causing deformation of the workpiece, and with which chatter vibration can be suppressed when processing the workpiece. This workpiece rest device (20) is configured such that, during processing of a crank shaft (15), a pair of rest arms (26, 27) are used to clamp and provide auxiliary support to a journal part (15a) of the crank shaft (15). The rest arms (26, 27) have, attached thereto, a plurality of pad devices (31) which press the journal part (15a) of the crank shaft (15) in the centripetal direction during a clamping operation by the rest arms (26, 27). The pad devices (31) are configured such that rest pads (32) in contact with the journal part (15a) of the crank shaft (15) are supported on pad support members (33), with viscoelastic bodies (37) provided therebetween.
