To prevent a stain and deformation when a work is inserted into a work holding hole by gripping the work in a noncontact condition by blowing out air toward the work, and inserting the work into the work holding hole formed in a work transfer tool.

An air holder A absorbs and holds a work 1 in a noncontact condition by jetting air toward the work 1 when the work 1 rises up to a central position of the air holder A, and advances, and inserts the work 1 into a work holding hole 4. The other air holder is oppositely arranged in a position on the opposite side of a work transfer tool 3 of the air holder A. When the work 1 held by the air holder A is inserted into the work holding hole 4, the work 1 is absorbed and held by jetting air toward the work 1 from the opposed air holder, and at the same time, blowout of air of the air holder A is stopped. In a condition where the work 1 is inserted into the work holding hole 4, it is supported in a noncontact condition by the other opposed air holder, and is moved toward a polishing machine K according to a movement of the work transfer tool 3.
