A rotation drive mechanism 4 is mounted on a slider 2 of a direct acting mechanism 1 and a gauge 6 is mounted on its output axis. The gauge 6 is formed in the almost Y shape as a whole by mounting a round bar type finger piece 12 in the V shape on the gauge body 11 and can index to an arbitrary rotation position. Even though the workpiece positioning device is only provided with a degree of freedom of operation of a direct acting 1 axis and a rotation 1 axis as a whole, and also is capable of coping with positioning of a plurality of workpieces W which are different in diameter dimensions, angles, and moreover, positioning height positions by positively variably controlling the rotation position of the gauge 6.
