PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a workpiece separation device capable of surely peeling a tape-like workpiece holding body, which holds peelably the workpiece, off from the workpiece.SOLUTION: A workpiece separation device 1 separates a plurality of glass plates 202 from a glass plate aggregate 201 that is held by an adhesive tape 203 while the glass plates 202 are lined up at intervals in a thickness direction. A tape chuck 30 and a peeling portion 11 peel the adhesive tape off from the glass plate aggregate. A tension detecting mechanism 20 and a control device 90 detect tension allowing the tape chuck and the peeling portion to peel the adhesive tape off from the glass plate aggregate. The tape chuck and the control device 90, when the tension detecting mechanism is operated, adjust tension allowing the tape chuck and the peeling portion to peel the adhesive tape off from the glass plate aggregate.
