To provide a woven fabric for making paper having excellent abrasion resistance and excellent smoothness in the woven fabric layer on the paper-making face by coupling the woven fabric layer on the paper-making face side with the woven fabric layer for the running face side without using any jointing and connecting yarn.

In the woven fabric layer for making paper 1A according to this invention, the woven fabric layer on the paper-making face side is constituted with the plane woven fabric with the first weft 21 and the first warp 31, while a part of the second warp 32 that is not woven into the second weft 22 is woven into the first weft to form the jointing and binding part 6 whereby the woven fabric layer 4 on the paper-making face side and the woven fabric layer 5 on the running face side are connected into the vertically doublelayered woven fabric. The count of the woven yarns into complete texture is 20 in the first weft and 10 in the second weft 22 where the ratio of them is 2:1. In other words, the woven fabric layer on the paper-making face side has close texture, while the fabric layer 5 on the running face side has rough texture.
