This woven fabric 1 for papermaking is a double-layer woven fabric for papermaking constituting a complete texture by connecting a woven fabric layer 2 at a papermaking surface side composed of warps 21 at the papermaking surface side and wefts 22 at the papermaking surface side to a woven fabric layer 3 at a traveling surface side composed of warps 31 at the traveling surface side and wefts 32 at the traveling surface side. The whole yarns of the warps at the papermaking surface side, the wefts at the papermaking surface side, the warps at the traveling surface side and the wefts at the traveling surface side are elliptical yarns having approximately elliptical cross sections. The heights of crimps of the warps and the wefts are uniformed and smoothness is raised by possessing the constitution. Paper stock bearing properties can be improved and dehydration load can be reduced by reducing the thickness of a wire without causing reduction in strength.
