PURPOSE: To provide a woven or knit fabric having multilayer structure, usable as a substitute for polyurethane for cushioning material and various other uses and provide a process for producing the fabric.

CONSTITUTION: This fabric is composed of a pair of cloth pieces 1a, 1b placed parallel to each other and a space yarn 2 sewn into the fabric in a state reciprocated between the cloth pieces 1a, 1b to support the pieces 1a, 1b interposing a prescribed gap S. The racking yarn of at least one cloth piece 1a is over-run to successively form a number of loops, which are raised with a raising machine to form a raised face 4. The raised face 4 is formed of a number of separate fluffs 3... having cut tip ends.
