PURPOSE: To uniformly coat a metallic cut sheet from its front end to rear end even with a low-viscosity chromating soln. while reducing nonuniform coating by providing a pressing means to adjust the pressing force of an elastic body provided on a coating roll to form a reservoir of the soln.

CONSTITUTION: In the wringer roll-type coater, the reservoir 7 of a coating soln. supplied from a feed means 1 is formed between a coating roll 2 and an elastic body 4. At this time, the pressing force of the elastic body 4 on the roll 2 is adjusted by a pressing means 5, and the coating soln. supplied on the roll 2 forms its reservoir 8 at the contact part between the roll 2 and a backup roll 3 of iron. The reservoir 8 is minimized by the adjustment of the pressing force of the means 5 to the extent that non-uniform coating is not caused, and hence non-uniform coating on the tip of a metallic cut sheet 9 delivered by a conveyor roll 6 is reduced.
