PURPOSE: To obtain a wrinkling suppression agent effective for preventing the aging of skin, especially preventing the formation of wrinkles by using a plant of the genus Cyperus or its extract as an active component.
CONSTITUTION: This wrinkling suppression agent contains a plant of the genus Cyperus (e.g. umbrella sedge, Cyperus brevifolius and flatstage) or its extract as an active component in an amount of usually 0.001-20wt.%, preferably 0.001-3wt.% in terms of solid. The wrinkling suppression effect can be improved by adding an anti-inflammatory agent (e.g. allantoin), an antioxidant (e.g. α-tocopherol), etc. It can be prepared in the form of conventional cosmetics such as ointment, O/W-type or W/O-type emulsified cosmetic, cream, cosmetic milky lotion, face lotion, oily cosmetic, pack and foundation by properly adding conventional cosmetic components. The extract is produced by extracting the whole grass or its leaf, stalk, root, fruit, seed and/or flower of a plant of the genus Cyperus or its dried and pulverized product with a solvent (e.g. ethanol) at room temperature or under heating.
