Two kinds of electrophoretic particles 24 are sealed between substrates, the particles comprising positively charged magenta migration particles 24M colored in magenta and negatively charged cyan migration particles 24C colored in cyan, and white particles 26 colored in white are added to the electrophoretic particles 24 and sealed between the substrates. The electrophoretic particles 24 sealed between the substrates exhibit such properties that at a voltage V2, the migration particles in different colors separate from each other and move in opposite directions to each other and that at a voltage V1 (V2>V1) or lower, the particles form aggregates to move. A voltage to be applied between the substrates is controlled to form aggregates on the substrate.
