PURPOSE: To prevent important image data from being lost by giving warning to an operator and automatically restarting transfer after the end of photographing when the image transfer to a permanent image memory device is not normal and giving warning as well when this transfer is not normal.

CONSTITUTION: The image data converted to digital signals is inputted to an image memory 13 in order to temporarily store the data and further the images are transferred to a magnetic tape simultaneously with the execution of photographing. Whether the magnetic tape is in a recording state or not is judged after the end of the photographing. A buzzer is sound unless the magnetic tape is in the recording state. Further, this state is displayed on a display device 15, such as monitor. The images are thereafter automatically transferred from the image memory 13 to the magnetic tape and whether the magnetic tape is in the recording state or not is judged again. The operation is ended after the recording state is released if the magnetic tape is in the recording state. The buzzer is again sounded and the state is displayed on the display device 15, such as monitor, if the magnetic tape is not in the recording state at this time. Since the recording is no longer possible on the magnetic tape in this state, adequate disposition is performed at this time.
