To make the tail of tube voltage drop quickly, while preventing heating at the high voltage section by regenerating the energy of charges stored in a capacitor to an AC power supply or other electric energy storing element during the interval, when X-ray radiation is stopped.
When a semiconductor switch 21 is turned on, a tube voltage is applied to the primary (high voltage side) of a second transformer 20 and stepped down to 1/100, depending on the turn ratio before being fed to a rectifier 22. The rectifier 22 conducts, when the voltage on the secondary (low voltage side) of the second transformer 20 is higher than the voltage of a first capacitor 12. Majority of the energy of charges stored in a second capacitor 16 is regenerated to the first capacitor 12 on the input side of an inverter 13 via the second transformer 20. Consequently, the tube voltage drops abruptly upon turning the switch 21 on and the tail thereof can be shortened significantly. Furthermore, there is no possibility of heating, because the majority of energy on the high voltage side can be regenerated on the low voltage side.
