To provide a yarn-piecing device which can surely catch and wholly remove a detected portion of a yarn wound on a winding package without damaging the surface of the winding package, when a yarn end of a winding package side is pieced to a yarn end of a yarn-supplying side, and to provide a yarn-piecing method.

This yarn-piecing device P includes a yarn-piecing member, a yarn end-catching means 1 which approaches the surface of the winding package, sucks a yarn end, and guides the yarn end to a yarn-piecing member, and a reversing means 2 for rotating the winding package in an unwinding direction, wherein the yarn end-catching means 1 can freely be moved to a catching position 1B for approaching the surface of the winding package and sucking the yarn end, a sucking position 1C for continuously sucking the defective portion of the yarn, and a waiting position 1A for guiding the sucked yarn end to the yarn-piecing member. In the yarn-piecing method, the sucking position 1C is a place separated from the winding package PW1.
