PURPOSE: To provide yarn for thermoplastic composite light in weight and tough having excellent surface smoothness, useful for molding the thermoplastic composite.

CONSTITUTION: Yarn 4 for thermoplastic composite is made of discontinuous thermoplastic matrix fiber 1 which is substantially non-twisting, discontinuous reinforcing fiber 2 which is substantially non-twisting, and continuous thermoplastic matrix fiber 3 which is the same kind as the fiber 1. In the yarn 4 for thermoplastic composite, the fiber 3 of 1wt.% or above and 10wt.% or below with respect to the yarn 4 is wound in a covering way on combined filament yarn made by combining the fibers 1 and 2 at a filament combining rate of 20%, in a state that the fibers 3 are substantially dispersed uniformly in the direction of the yarn axis of the combined filament yarn. The continuous thermoplastic matrix fiber 3 is made of crimped yarn.
