To provide use of yeast variants mass-producing S-adenosylmethionine effective as therapeutic agent for each disease of liver disease, treatment of depression, osteoarthrosis, cancer therapy and the like.
The screening method of a highly S-adenosylmethionine-productive yeast includes determining by using, as the index, recovery in the presence of methionine and of the phenotype expressed in the absence of methionine. As the result, the yeast variants much accumulating S-adenosylmethionine in the cells can be screened. By culturing the yeast variant, S-adenosylmethionine can be much produced. The yeast variant stops cell cycle on G1 phase at 37C. Therefore, the yeast variant can be used to analyze in vivo function of the S-adenosylmethionine.
