The yoke 9 for a universal joint functions in such a manner that a rotary shaft is serration-fitted to a serration hole (shaft insertion hole) 16 of a notched cylindrical hub 9A where a pair of flanges are formed by a slit 15 formed in the axial direction and that the rotary shaft is fastened and fixed by screwing a fastening bolt inserted into a bolt inversion hole formed in one flange into a screw hole 18 formed in the other flange. In the yoke 9, a hemispheric recessed portion 19 is formed on outer surface portion which is at the back end 15a of the slit 15 of the hub 9A, the recessed portion 19 having a diameter larger than the width of the slit 15.
