PURPOSE: To provide woven fabric which is stretchable in the warp direction or both warp and weft directions, its production, and a weaving machine therefor.
CONSTITUTION: In 'YUHATA' gingham woven fabric, a polyurethane elastic yarn is regularly mixed in its shrink state every a plurality of non-elastic warp yarns, thus the woven fabric has wrinkles in the warp direction and the stretchability of the fabric reaches 50% at the maximum in the warp direction. This gingham fabric is produced using a weaving machine shown in the figure, equipped with a device for feeding polyurethane yarn 21 from the bobbin 17. When the gingham fabric is produced from non-stretching weaving yarns, polyurethane yarn is mixed every a plurality of unstretching warp 3 and/or weft 13 yarns, as the elastic yarn are stretched under a tension. The woven fabric is treated with warm or cold water to loosen the yarn-crossing points and shrink only the polyurethane yarns to their original length thereby shrinking the fabric in both warp and weft directions.
