PURPOSE: To eliminate intricacies that the Z-shape folding is smoothed out before reading documents and the documents shall be again Z-shape folded after reading the documents.
CONSTITUTION: A Z-shape folded document handling method is provided with a document loading means (a document tray 102) which is inclined relative to a document reading surface (a contact glass 4) and on which the document is loaded, a separating and feeding means (a blade 104, a roller 105) which separates and feeds the document loaded on this document loading means, and a carrying means (a carrying belt 106) to carry the separated and fed document to the document reading surface. A Z-shape folded document smoothing-out part (21) and a Z-shape re-folding part (23) which realizes Z-shape folding again of the document smoothed out by this Z-shape folding document smoothing-out part are provided, and a the same time, a Z-shape detecting means (a sensor 111) to detect the Z-shape folding of the document is provided to the Z-shape folded document smoothing-out part.
