PURPOSE: To obtain a new zeolite NU-85 useful as a catalyst for hydrocarbon conversion reactions such as alkylation and isomerization by intergrowing parent zeolites EU-1 and NU-87.
CONSTITUTION: The zeolite NU-85 has a compsn., in the molar ratio among oxides on the anhydride basis, represented by the formula 100XO2: ≤10Y2O3: ≤R2/nO [where R is one or more n-valent cations; X is Si and/or Ge; and Y is one or more selected from Al, Fe, Ga, B, Ti, V, Zr, Mo, As, Sb, Cr and Mn]. When the zeolite NU-85 is oriented in its as-prepd. form so as to show the 20.2±0.2 fringe of a zeolite EU-1, the zeolite NU-85 shows the lattice image of a 12.5±0.2 fringe intergrown with the 20.2±0.2 fringe of the zeolite EU-1 and/or an X-ray diffraction pattern including lines shown by the table.
