To perform a uniform reaction in a battery and improve an electrical discharging capacity as well as its cycle characteristic by a method wherein some substances of particles having either a part of or the entire surface of each of composing particles of zinc powder covered by copper or indium are applied as material for the battery.
When zinc powder is present in solution containing copper ion, zinc is outputted as elution to the surface of zinc particle and concurrently copper is deposited. The surface of the zinc particle is covered with copper or some fine coppers are mixed in the zinc powder through this reaction and then a fine uniform mixing system is formed. Upon application of the powder mixture to the negative pole of the battery, zinc acting as the active substance is closely entangled with copper acting as a current collector, resulting in that an area of the current collector becomes quite wide. With such an arrangement as above, an alkaline zinc secondary battery having a high performance can be attained in less-expensive manner.
