Title:
ZIRCONIA-BASED COMPOSITE CERAMIC SINTERED COMPACT FOR BIOLOGICAL USE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3648968
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject sintered compact with excellent mechanical properties, causing no deterioration of its characteristics even under wet circumstances in vivo by mutual dispersion of 1st phase consisting of zirconia grains containing both ceria and titania as stabilizer and consisting mainly of tetragonal and 2nd phase consisting of alumina grains.
SOLUTION: This composite ceramic sintered compact stable even in vivo and having adequate mechanical properties by mutual dispersion of 1st phase consisting of zirconia grains containing ceria and titania as stabilizer at 8-12 mol.% or so and at 0.02-4 mol.% or so, respectively, and containing ≥90 vol.% of tetragonal and 2nd phase consisting of alumina grains; wherein it is preferable that the 1st phase is also incorporated with about 0.01-0.1 mol.% of magnesia or calcia in order to contributing to higher mechanical strength and higher toughness of this sintered compact, and part of the above alumina grains is made to exist in the zirconia grains. Further, it is preferable that this sintered compact is made porous to reduce its elastic modulus to ≤150 GPa for biological use and its flexural strength is brought to ≥170 MPa.
