Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide superior mechanical properties and corrosion resistance to a Zr alloy substrate by forming a diffusion layer of Nb on at least part of the surface layer of the substrate.
CONSTITUTION: A diffusion layer of Nb contg. 0.5W6wt% Nb is formed on at least part of a Zr alloy substrate contg., by weight, 1W20% Sn, 0.1W0.3% Fe, 0.01W0.2% Cr and <0.1% Ni. The resulting Zr alloy substrate is useful as a structural member of the reactor core of a nuclear reactor or the like.
