Regarding the Zn-based alloy plated steel having excellent adhesion with clear coating and having a grayish white appearance, on the surface layer of a plating layer having a hairline appearance obtained by being subjected to grinding to one direction with grinding paper or No.4 mat finishing or having a satin-finished appearance by blast treatment with metal shots or beads, and having a plating coating weight of 10 to 300 g/m2 and a plating composition of, by mass, 5 to 60% Al, 1 to 5% Mg and 0.01 to 2% Si, and the balance Zn with inevitable impurities, an oxide layer composed of oxide, hydroxide or a mixture of oxide and hydroxide and comprising metal components so as to satisfy, by mass, 40 to 80% Al, 5 to 20% Mg, and the balance Zn with inevitable impurity metal components is present by 0.1 to 50 mg/m2 as its coating weight.
