Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method finding a condition so that a product is satisfied in an error rate specification without exchanging a whole head stack when a specified head among various heads constituting the head stack is a defective product.
SOLUTION: As a zone layout selection method for a hard disk drive considering head/recording medium performance, this method executes a first process (100 step) setting a reference position measuring many head performance and a reference value of head performance in the reference position, a second process (102 step) selecting a zone layout corresponding to the reference value of the head performance and forming the drive, a third process (104 step) measuring a zone error rate of a whole drive by the selected zone layout and a fourth process (122-114 step) selecting the zone layout of one step less capacity when the zone error rate measured by the third process isn't satisfied with the reference value, and again testing the drive.
