This zoom lens is constituted of a front group lens group I consisting of a first lens 1 whose objective side is a convex face and having positive diffraction force, a second lens 2 whose both faces are a concave face and having negative diffraction force and third, fourth lenses 3, 4 whose both faces are the convex face and having the positive diffraction force, and wholly having the positive diffraction force, and the rear group lens group II consisting of a fifth lens 5 whose respective upper sides are the convex face and having the positive diffraction force and sixth, seventh lenses 6, 7 having the negative diffraction force, and wholly having the negative diffraction force. The rear group lens group II contains a surface of aspherical surface, and is satisfied with the conditions by expressions I to IV. In the expressions I-IV, ft: a focal distance of a whole optical system in a telephoto end, fw: the focal distance of the whole optical system in a wide angle end, fI: the focal distance of the front group lens group, LI1: a distance on an optical axis that the front group lens group is moved at the time of variable power and 2Y: a length of an upper surface diagonal. By using this rear group lens group II, the zoom ratio of 2.4 or above, the viewing angle of 70° or above, the telephoto ratio of 1 are obtained.
