To provide a zoom lens that is advantageous in terms of a wide angle, high zoom ratio, compact size and light weight, and high optical performance.SOLUTION: A zoom lens has, in order from an object side: a positive first lens group that does not move for zooming; two or more intermediate lens groups that move in the zooming; and a positive rear lens group, in which a mutual interval among adjacent lens groups changes in the zooming, and the zoom lens has an aperture stop that is arranged in the rear lens group, in the lens group adjacent to the real lens group, or between the lens group adjacent to the rear lens group and the rear lens group. The first lens group has, in order from the object side: a negative first sub-lens group that stands still for focusing; a positive second sub-lens group that moves for the focusing; and a positive third sub-lens group, in which a focal length of the first lens group, length on an optical axis from a surface closest to an image side of the first lens group to a rear-side principal point of the first lens group, and focal lengths at a wide-angle end and telephoto end are properly set.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
