Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fault diagnostic device for a hydraulic variable valve apparatus, configured to precisely diagnose an abnormal condition such as a fault of a hydraulic mechanism in the hydraulic variable valve apparatus of an internal combustion engine, with a relatively simple and inexpensive configuration.SOLUTION: The fault diagnostic device 500 for the hydraulic variable valve apparatus 100 includes an electromagnetic valve 220 provided in the middle of an oil supply channel 210. A valve 110 is opened/closed while keeping a hydraulic pressure high in the high-pressure-side channel on the upstream side in the oil supply direction from the electromagnetic valve 220, with the electromagnetic valve 220 kept closed, and the electromagnetic valve 220 is opened, thereby releasing the hydraulic pressure in the high-pressure side channel to the low-pressure side channel on the downstream side in the oil supply direction from the electromagnetic valve 220, to variably control the valve-closing time of the valve 110. A fault in the hydraulic variable valve apparatus 100 is diagnosed on the basis of the degree of reduction in hydraulic pressure in the high-pressure-side channel after opening the valve of the electromagnetic valve 220.
