Title:
METHOD FOR COUPLING LUBRICANT TO MAGNETIC DISK
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3207829
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk having zone groups which are separate in changed lubricant layer thicknesses in order to reduce the floating static friction on a magnetic disk surface.
SOLUTION: Protective film layers having the discriminated zone groups of different compositions are first sputtered on a disk surface by using discriminated masks under different sputtering conditions. The surfaces of the protective film layers are then uniformly coated with the lubricant layer. Part of the lubricant bonds to the protective film layers and forms the bonded lubricant layers and the thicknesses of the bonded lubricant layers correlate with the characteristics of the protective film layers and therefore the free lubricant layers having the zoned thicknesses are resultantly formed. The free lubricant layers are formed from the remaining lubricants. The zoned lubricants therefore reduce the floating static friction.
