Abstract:
A substrate supports a stack of thin dielectric layers forming a Bragg mirror. This supports a sample. The stack reflects the incident beam. The uppermost layer comprises a material which is biocompatible with the sample, and has a low refractive index. An Independent claim is included for a method of using the above apparatus. It analyzes photo thermally, and includes the sample support described. The supported sample is illuminated, and a pumping or excitation beam (1) is provided. An instrument detects and/or measures absorption or reflection of the excitation beam by the sample, when it is illuminated. The detector can be positioned. The excitation beam wavelength is selected for absorption by the sample, and/or by sample markers.
