To provide an excellent reforming catalyst in which the amount of the residual chlorine atom is very small and hence which does not cause corrosion of peripheral instruments and lowering of battery characteristics and exhibits significantly high activity per active metal such as supported ruthenium, a method of producing the same, and a method for reforming hydrocarbons using the reforming catalyst by which hydrogen for a fuel cell is efficiently obtained.
The catalyst for reforming hydrocarbons is obtained by supporting at least one kind of component selected from ruthenium, platinum, rhodium, palladium, iridium and nickel components on a carrier containing manganese oxide. In the reforming catalyst, a carrier or supported components which are prepared from chlorine-containing compounds are contained. The content of residual chlorine atom is ≤0.5 mass %. Furthermore, the method of producing the reforming catalyst and the reforming method (steam reforming, auto thermal reforming, partial oxidation reforming and carbon dioxide reforming) for hydrocarbons using the reforming catalyst are also provided.
