The catalyst for synthesizing the carbon nanotube comprises a fine particle containing one or more of first elements selected from Fe, Co and Ni and one or more of second elements selected from 4A group elements and 5A group element and keeps the periphery of the fine particle coated with a protection layer comprising one or more organic substances selected from an organic acid and an organic amine. A manufacturing method for the catalyst, and the catalyst dispersion dispersed in a dispersion medium are provided. The manufacturing method for the carbon nano-tube includes a catalyst carrying step in which a substrate surface is coated with the catalyst dispersion and the substrate surface carries with the catalyst for synthesizing the carbon nano-tube and a growth step for growing the carbon nano-tube on the substrate surface carrying the catalyst for synthesizing the carbon nano-tube is provided.
