To provide a material for an electroluminescent element having high light-emitting luminance and a long light-emitting life, and to provide the electroluminescent element using the material.

The organic electroluminescent element is obtained by forming a light-emitting layer, or two or more layers of thin membranes of organic compounds, including the light-emitting layer, between a pair of electrodes. The light emission-starting voltage and the light-emitting efficiency are improved by using the material for the organic electroluminescent element comprising a nonconjugated polymer containing a unit having a specific chemical formula, and a monovalent organic residue containing a carbazole skeleton, in the light-emitting layer.
