Abstract:
To provide a circuit breaker that enhances the cooling effect of an arc by increasing the amount of ablation gas generated, maintains a fixing function of a plurality of grids by increasing the tracking resistance and heat resistance, and surely performs breaking and cooling action by contact between the arc and the grid.SOLUTION: An arc extinguishing device 3 includes a pair of arc extinguishing walls arranged along a moving path R of a movable contact 6a so as to face both sides of the moving path, and a plurality of grids 35 arranged in layers supported by the pair of arc extinguishing walls. The pair of arc extinguishing walls includes a pair of front half arc-extinguishing walls 31 that are arranged on a fixed contact 5 so as to sandwich a fixed contact 5b and are made of a polymer material that generates ablation gas by melting when an arc is generated, and a pair of rear half arc-extinguishing walls 33 and 36 that are connected to the upper part of the pair of first half arc-extinguishing walls, support the plurality of grids between the walls, and are made of a polymer material that generates less ablation gas than the pair of first half arc-extinguishing walls when an arc is generated.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
