PURPOSE: To obtain hydrogen-treated products reduced in the contents of undesired components by bringing hydrocarbon feed materials containing undesired components such as high boiling point components, sulfur, metals, asphaltenes, into contact with hydrogen in the presence of a specific catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: The catalyst having a total surface area of 165-230 m2/g, a total pore volume of 0.5-0.8 ml/g and a pore diameter distribution such that less than about 5% of the total pore volume is present as primary micropores of diameter less than about 80 , and secondary micropores of diameter of a pore mode of 100-135 ±20 are present in amount of at least about 65% of the micro pore volume having pores with diameter less than 250 , wherein the porous alumina support contains 3-6 wt.% of oxides of the metals of group VIII, 14.5-24 wt.% of the oxides of the metals of group VIB and 0-6 wt.% of phosphorus oxide, is provided. The hydrocarbon feed materials containing undesired components, such as a component having high boiling point greater than about 500°C, sulfur, metals, asphaltenes or the like are brought into contact with hydrogen in the presence of the catalyst.
