Abstract:

Compositions in the form of aqueous solutions containing (a) 0.0005-20 wt. % peracetic acid, (b) 0.001 - 45 wt. % acetic acid, (c) 0.001-35 wt. % H2O2, (d) 0.0001-2 wt. % of at least one amine oxide of formula (R<1>)(R<2>)(R<3>)N -> O (I) in which either R<1> = a linear or branched, cyclic or acyclic radical containing 1-40 C and optionally 1-6 heteroatoms selected from O, S or N and R<2> and R<3> (same or different) = 1-4 C linear or branched alkyl or 1-4 C linear or branched hydroxyalkyl, or R<1> and R<2> together with the N atom to which they are bound complete a heterocycle which may be saturated or unsaturated, substituted or unsubstituted, containing 5-8 C atoms and 1-4 heteroatoms selected from O, N and S, and R<3> = 1-4 C linear or branched alkyl or 1-4 C linear or branched hydroxyalkyl, and (e) optionally up to 2.5 wt. % of at least one non-ionic surface active agent, wherein (f) the weight ratio of (I) to peracetic acid ≤ 1 and (g) the weight ratio nonionic surfactant to peracetic acid ≤ 0.2 and with the proviso that if any nonionic surfactant is present in the solution it is neither a compound of formula (III) (R<9>)(R<10>)CH-(O-CH2-CH2)n-OH (III) in which R<9> and R<10> independently = H or linear or branched alkyl, the total number of C atoms in R<9> and R<10> = 7-22, n = 1-15 and the numerical ratio between the total number of C atoms in R<9> and R<10> and n ≥ 3/1, nor a nonyl phenol ethoxylate with a degree of ethoxylation of 4-8.
