Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a method and instrument for accurately measuring the build-up weld of a reactor pressure vessel.

CONSTITUTION: With a magnetic yoke 202 having an arbitrary magnetic path length and cross-sectional area press-contacted with the surface 104 of a build-up weld 105 on a reactor pressure vessel so that a magnetic path can be formed by the yoke 101 and pressure vessel, the yoke 101 is magnetized to measure a magnetic field distribution 301a-301i on the surface 104 and in the vicinity of the weld 105. Then the thickness (g) of the weld 105 is identified from the median and half-width of the measured magnetic field distribution.
