PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a connecting rod of an internal combustion engine capable of efficiently reducing a surface pressure of a power transmission pin received from the neighborhood of an end portion of an axial outer side of a connection hole.SOLUTION: A base material hole 15 is formed on a connecting rod base material 14, and a coating layer 16 composed of a coating material softer than the connecting rod base material 14, is disposed on an inner peripheral face of the base material hole 15. The base material hole 15 has a cylindrical inner face portion 17 having a constant inner diameter and formed on an axial central region, and a tapered inner face portion 18 connected to an axial outer side of the cylindrical inner face portion 17 and expanded toward the axial outer side. The coating layer 16 has a first coating portion 19 disposed on the cylindrical inner face portion 17 and having an approximately constant inner diameter, and a second coating portion 20 disposed on the tapered inner face portion 18, connected to the first coating portion 19, and having a thickness gradually increased toward the axial outer side.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
