Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize miniaturization and weight saving of a cylinder block in a multi-cylinder engine. SOLUTION: In a method for enveloped casting a cylinder liner in the multi- cylinder engine, firstly, an aluminum-base complexed material billet is produced and the billet is extruded to make an extruded material formed with a general outer peripheral part and a special outer peripheral part on the outer surface of a cylinder and a positioning part on the inner surface, and the extruded material is cut off to form the cylinder liners and the cylinder liners are set in a mold to pour molten metal therein. On the special outer part, short ribs having lower height than that of radial ribs on the general outer peripheral part, are formed or grooves are notched. Or, the special outer peripheral part is formed as a flattened surface without the rib, or the long rib having the same height as the radial rib is formed at a pitch having larger than the pitch of the radial rib.
