Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve desalination performance, reduce a device size, and improve regeneration efficiency in a desalination device using a bipolar membrane.SOLUTION: A water-permeable cation exchange zone 17 is provided so as to contact with a cation exchange membrane 14 in a bipolar membrane 11. A water-permeable anion exchange zone 18 is provided so as to contact with an anion exchange membrane 15 in the bipolar membrane 11. In a space where voltage is applied by electrodes 12, 13 and the bipolar membrane 11 is arranged, the cation exchange zone 17 and the anion exchange zone 18 are arranged so as to contact with each other or to face each other. Water to be treated is made to pass through the space while applying direct-current voltage by the electrodes 12, 13, whereby the water to be treated is subjected to desalination. The polarity of the direct-current voltage applied to each of the electrodes 12, 13 is reversed during regeneration.
