The method for designing the golf ball having a multi-layered structure with a plurality of concentrically disposed layers of different materials includes a model setting step S1 for making models of golf balls for which golf ball designing parameters to influence the kinetic state of the golf ball when shot by a golf club are defined, and setting a plurality of kinds of golf ball models with different distributions of the parameters from the innermost layer to the outermost layer in the multi-layered structure; a step S3 for computing the kinetic state of the respective golf ball models; and a step S6 for searching the golf ball model with the optimum kinetic state. In the model setting step, a golf ball model is set based on a plurality of functions obtained by linearly combining at least one basis function consisting of serial functions one after another, while changing the weighting coefficient, with the basis function indicating a preset parameter distribution.
