Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect deterioration of a fuel reforming catalyst 18 before regeneration of an upstream end 31a side portion of a catalyst carrier 31 becomes impossible.SOLUTION: As a fuel reforming system for supplying hydrogen to a combustion chamber, a fuel reforming catalyst 18 and a fuel injection valve 19 for reformed fuel are disposed in an EGR passage of an internal combustion engine. A catalyst temperature sensor 27 is provided in the fuel reforming catalyst 18. Based on a temporal change of a temperature decline caused by heat absorption reaction during reforming, a diagnosis of deterioration is made. The fuel reforming catalyst 18 has a catalyst volume twice as large as a minimum catalyst volume required for reforming. In response to this characteristic, a temperature measurement point 27a of the catalyst temperature sensor 27 is disposed in a range of up to a half from an upstream end 31a of a catalyst carrier 31 and on the downstream side of an oxidation reaction region L1 in the vicinity of the upstream end 31a.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
