Abstract:
The apparatus comprises a main circuit (14) for conducting electric current to the electric motor (12) during its normal operation. The main circuit includes a motor starter (20) and a current limiting switch assembly (30), connected in series. A by-pass circuit conducts electric current to the motor starter and current limiting switch assembly when flow of excessive current to the motor is detected. The current limiting switch assembly includes a conductor which is movable between first and second positions. The conductor opens the by-pass circuit during normal operation of the motor and opens the main circuit when it is in second position. The conductor is moved from first to second position when excessive current flow to motor is detected.
