PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diagnostic method capable of preventing design restriction imposed on a mounting position of an intake oxygen concentration sensor and a control device for an engine.SOLUTION: In a diagnostic method for an intake oxygen concentration sensor for making a diagnosis to determine whether output characteristics of the intake oxygen concentration sensor (18) provided in an intake passage (2) of an internal combustion engine is normal, a controller (30) determines whether a difference of a fresh air ratio between inside of the intake passage (2) and inside of an exhaust passage (3) of the internal combustion engine is within a predetermined value, compares output of the intake oxygen concentration sensor (18) with output of an exhaust oxygen concentration sensor (19) provided in the exhaust passage (3) when the difference of the fresh air ratio is within the predetermined value, and makes the diagnosis on the basis of a comparison result.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
